We are the original “Scantle” roofing company, established in 1990, and born out of a passionate desire to restore the vernacular architecture of Cornwall and Devon.
Since those early days our company has developed and expanded to encompass not only the traditional roofing styles found in Cornwall and Devon, but also all aspects of historic building restoration and repair.
We are experts not only in traditional wet and dry laid scantle slate roofing, but also rag slate roofing, slate hanging and slate flooring. Our restoration portfolio contains many examples of lime plaster, lime mortars and decorative mouldings, stonemasonry and traditional timber joinery.
Over the years we have established our reputation as specialists in building conservation and preservation throughout the South West.
We are winners of the prestigious Cornwall Buildings Group award for the restoration of a 15th century listed farmhouse, and some of our major projects have featured in Grand Designs Magazine, Period House, The Daily Telegraph,
The Western Morning News and BBC Spotlight.
Our founder, Gavin Hickson, has worked as building consultant for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, the Duchy of Cornwall, English Heritage and regularly lectures for Plymouth University on architectural conservation.
